“Anne Allen is an extremely talented young flautist... she has a beautiful natural tone... a strong sense of colour and characterisation.” Said Roger Vignoles, the  Internationally famous Pianist. The Marine Theatre is justifiably proud to have Anne  launching the 2008 classical concert series at the Marine Theatre this spring. “Classical music is a passion for so many of us. said John Bartholomew the chair of the Marine Theatre trust. “I am so delighted that these concerts, in conjunction with the Town Mill” he continued “offer our audience an opportunity to hear the very best of fresh talent in the classical music world, here in our town by the sea” Tickets for the concerts are available form Lyme TIC 01297 442138 at £10.00 each or £48 for all 6 concerts.

Anne Allen quickly became recognised as an exciting young flautist, graduating from Cambridge University and the Royal Northern College of Music with Distinction. Performing internationally, she has played in all the major UK venues and abroad in Europe, the Far East, Africa, Russia and South America Among the delightful pieces for flute and piano that Anne and Christopher will be playing are  Pan and the birds, Carl Czerny Duo Concertante, Messiaen Vocalise Etude and Hüe Fantaisie.

A prize winning performer who regular competes and wins at international competitions, Anne is an accomplished orchestral player who has performed in many professional orchestras and opera companies including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Northern Chamber Orchestra and English National Ballet. Winning the Audience Favour Prize in Moscow and appearing as Principal Flute in the Orchestra of the World conducted by Valery Gergiev have been highlights in her orchestral career so far.

Christopher Taylor, who will be playing with her, trained at the Royal Academy of Music where he won an exhibition to study piano accompaniment. He is in regular demand for recitals throughout the UK and abroad and is as happy playing seventeenth century continuo as he is playing contemporary classical music and jazz.  In 2004 he composed the opera Uncle Remus, premiered at the Hackney Empire, and a commission for the London Philharmonic Orchestra premiered at the Royal Festival Hall, then in July of that year co-wrote the music for the American Democratic Election Campaign's promotion video.  The other pieces they will include in this richly varied programme are Martinu Sonata for flute & piano 1st Movement, Rabboni Sonata no3, Mouquet Pan and the birds amd Schubert Introduction theme and Variations on Die Tröckne Blumen.

The concert series continues with the March concert taking place at Woodroffe School on Thursday 27 March when  The Oboe Band will play for the people of Lyme as well as the school students who are studying music at A level. The series continues with DYAD (Percussion duo) on Thursday 17 April, Anna Devin (soprano) & Aoife O'Sullivan (piano) on Thursday 22 May. Ensemble na Mara (Piano Quartet) will be coming on Thursday 19 June and Sara Struntz (violin) & Alessandro Timossi (piano) will end the series on Thursday 10 July.  Anyone buying tickets for all the concerts will have a reduction of £12 as tickets for all 6 only cost £48.00.
