CONCERTS IN THE WEST 2008: ENSEMBLE NA MARA |

‘….utterly accomplished’ ‘astonishing energy……’
Alasdair Beatson's recital for "Concerts in the West" this time last year was probably the most memorable performance of the series. In fact it was so memorable that he was invited to give a private recital in Devon the following month and the acclaim led Catherine Hodgson to invite him back this year with his Chamber Group Ensemble na Mara. He has just recorded his first disc for SOMM Recordings and will be appearing at the Wigmore Hall on 14 July and again on 9 October with the Scottish Ensemble. He was on Radio 3 recently receiving the Royal Philharmonic Society award on behalf of IMS Prussia Cove.
Not only does Alasdair have a reputation to envy but Ensemble na Mara has been earning the plaudits in its own right. It has awards from the Tunnell Trust Music Club Scheme and the Kirckman Concert Society and after winning the 2006 Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Prize, was invited to the Brighton Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe, the Cadogan Hall and the Wigmore Hall. Recent engagements have taken it to Garsington Manor, the Rosehill Theatre, Sheffield's Crucible Theatre and London's Reform Club. It will be back at the Wigmore Hall nine days after appearing in Ilminster.
The Ensemble comprises Tom Hankey violin, Jessica Beeston viola, Eilidh Martin cello, and Alasdair Beatson piano. . Their programme is Beethoven's PIano Trio in G, op1 no, Faure's Piano Quartet in C minor and Martinu's String Trio no2. This should be an evening to remember.
