EVERYTHING'S COMING UP ROSES AT THE MARINE THEATRE 26.06.08 | ||||||||||

Everything is going to be coming up roses at the Marine Theatre thanks to Anne Fraser. This loyal supporter of the theatre, who splits her time between Lyme Regis and Epsom, has been trawling the charity shops for blooms, and has found a most wonderful collection of daisies and roses, gerberas and hydrangeas and even some proteas – all artificial but incredibly realistic. She is generously giving all these flowers to the theatre. Anne has been to several courses in flower arranging and knows a great deal about how flowers can be used to make impressive displays in a large space. They will be used in the beautiful vases the theatre fills with flowers for certain productions. The Summer Evenings of Music always have wonderful display, as do the classic concerts. The next Classic concert, on July 10th when Sara Struntz will be playing the violin, will be an opportunity to see Gill Steinberg’s wonderful creation with these new blossoms. Gill Steinberg has taken responsibility this season for arranging the flowers for the 2008 Concerts in the West.
Some of the blossoms had become separated from their stems and so volunteers Jean Gosney and Maureen Elliott were recruited to help mend them after their dancing class on Wednesday morning. The over 50 exercise classes and ballroom dancing classes have been so popular that they are being continued through the summer. The ballroom dancing class is planning a summer evening of ballroom dancing on July 25th at the “SS Marina”. The Royal Yeomanry Band rang asking if the Marine theatre could include them in its summer programme, and Margie Barbour the Artistic Director leapt at the chance to ask them to play for the ballroom dance. Their programme will include waltz, tango, quickstep, cha cha, jive, rumba, samba, and foxtrot! The band are returning for an afternoon concert on the afternoon of Sunday July 27th at 3.00 for a matinee concert for £5.00.
Anne is planning a special flower arrangements for the Wurzels evening on July 2nd, with poppies and straw bales, daisy chains and even a straw scarecrow. The Wurzels concerts bring out the “Ooh –Arr” in the audience so the evening of Scrumpy and Western promises to be memorable as the audience throw themselves into “Blackbird” singing “Where be it Blackbird to?I know where he be,He be up yon Wurzel tree, And I be after he!Now I sees he, And he sees I, Bothered if I don't get 'en, Wit a girt big stick I'll knock 'im down, Blackbird, I'll 'ave thee!” Tickets for all Marine theatre events from Lyme TIC 01297 442138.
