Marine Theatre Wurzels July 2nd at 8.00 pm Tickets £11.50
The Wurzels, coming to the Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis on 2nd July at 8.00 pm tickets £11.50 from Lyme TIC 01297 442138, are the leading British Scrumpy and Western band. They fuse comical folk-style songs, full of double entendre, with affectionate parodies of more mainstream musical genres, all delivered in broad Zummerset. Best known for their 1976 number one hit "The Combine Harvester", but with a history stretching nearly 40 years. Joining in with their rousing songs is a part of the great tradition of a Wurzel night so make sure you know all the words to Blackbird and Cider Drinker! The evening will start with a special guest to warm the audience up for the main event.
Anne Fraser, a volunteer at the theatre who has recently given the theatre a wonderful collection of flowers, from daisies and roses, gerberas and hydrangeas and even some proteas – all artificial but incredibly realistic, is planning a special flower arrangements for the Wurzels evening with poppies and straw bales, daisy chains and even a straw scarecrow. The Wurzels concerts bring out the “Ooh –Arr” in the audience so the evening of rural delights promises to be memorable as the audience throw themselves into “Blackbird” singing “Where be it Blackbird to?I know where he be, He be up yon Wurzel tree, And I be after he!Now I sees he, And he sees I, Bothered if I don't get 'en, Wit a girt big stick I'll knock 'im down, Blackbird, I'll 'ave thee!” |
