STORYTELLING TAKES OFF AT MARINE THEATRE

Emily aged 5 tries her hand at storytelling, with David Heathfield

On Sunday 26th August holidaymakers took a break from the beach and the sunshine to share stories in the cool of the Marine Theatre bar.

David Heathfield, an experienced and talented storyteller from Exeter brought a wealth of traditional West Country stories to the appreciative audience.

He told the Tale of Ivan who is rewarded for honesty and diligence, and the story of the staircase to the stars, which was a rich tale full of magical imagery. He ended with the wonderful story of Red, the little girl whose brother sent the dragon back to the sea. This story linked perfectly to the Jurassic history of Lyme Regis where dragons and dinosaurs mingle in children’s imaginations.

West Dorset District Council part funded these storytelling sessions, both to enrich local people’s  and visitors  experience of  traditional tales of the West Country and to spread storytelling skills to both young and old, as these sessions were offered to everyone. Margie Barbour, the Artistic director of the Marine Theatre joined David, telling the story of Idle Jack.
