Enormously popular when they played in Lyme Regis, the Marine Theatre is delighted to welcome back this highly original funky six piece band. King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys fast approaching a landmark two decades on the road, this concert will be a timely reminder of how far the band have travelled musically over the years. With cabaret seating and candle lit tables, the audience can enjoy the great sounds in comfort, or get up and party on down to their driving swing rhythm.
While remaining true to their swing, blues and jive roots, the band have developed into a formidable, all-conquering swing machine whose electric blue-suited all-action stage show is as much at home in the jazz, blues and swing festivals of Europe and the U.S.A. as in their home town of Birmingham. In fact, Atomic magazine of New York was moved to opine “To those who say that swing is a musical form best left to Americans, prepare to be proven wrong. This British combo is bullet-proof!”
“Hey, Puerto Rico!” sees a departure from what we have come to expect in terms of repertoire from King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys, with no less than eight of the songs penned by the King himself, best exemplified by the celebratory title track for the new Miss Universe “Hey, Puerto Rico!”.
“Hey, Puerto Rico!” also marks the recording debut of the newcomer to the band, the sensational young piano discovery Mighty Matt Foundling. The rest of the band line up as King Pleasure. |
