This line up brings a unique evening of blues and soul classics.
UK blues queen, Jo Harman, is one of Europe’s finest soul/blues singers. She’s an international touring and recording artist with many awards to her name. Rag ‘n Bone recently proclaimed her ‘one of this country’s finest talents. Soul star Michael McDonald said, ‘hearing her cover one of my songs was a spiritual experience’. She’s sung with the late Motown song-writing legend, Lamont Dozier, and Joan Baez. Classic Rock described her own compositions as ‘lip-bitingly beautiful’.
Singer guitarist, Mike Mayfield, is a touring and recording artist. As a session musician, he’s much in demand. He’s praised for his “unique soulful vocals and astonishing guitar playing.” Having played with Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Joss Stone and Jamie Cullum we can see why! He’s written and performed with his close collaborator and friend, Jo Harman for a number of years, both writing songs and performing together as well as working on her first and second albums.
Husky-voiced Eddy Smith on piano makes up this elite trio. Eddy’s been making his mark on the UK’s growing Americana scene with his band Eddy Smith & The 507 which blends blues, folk, country and rock. With his soulful melodies and vocal delivery, he’s often compared to Joe Cocker, Van Morrison and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man.
Motown’s Martha Reeves described local singer-songwriter, Joanna Cooke, as that “baby girl singing the blues”. Her emotive vocals and song writing craft is bringing belated recognition. She’s previously supported Jo Harman, Rag ‘n Bone Man, Paloma Faith and Tom Jones.
